Grammaticalmente la parola “however” è un avverbio.

Uso:
- It is used to introduce a statement that contrasts with or seems to contradict something that has been said previously. – Usiamo questa parola quando vogliamo segnalare che una nostra frase non è coerente con, o contraddice (almeno in parte) quanto affermato in precedenza.
Esempi:
People tend to put on weight in middle age. However, gaining weight is not inevitable. – Le persone tendono a metter su peso nella mezza età. In ogni caso acquistare peso non è inevitabile.
There is great wealth in that country. However, a lot of people live in poverty. – C’è molto benessere in questa nazione. In ogni caso però molte persone vivono in povertà.
We have not yet won, however, we will keep trying. – Non abbiamo ancora vinto, tuttavia continueremo a provarci.
Quando la utilizziamo in questo modo dovremmo sempre inserire questa parola fra due virgole, a meno che sia a inizio frase, e allora dovrebbe essere seguita da una virgola.

It is used for saying that it makes no difference how good, bad, difficult etc. something is or how much there is of something or in whatever way someone chooses. – Usiamo questa parola anche quando vogliamo specificare che non è importante quanto qualcosa sia buono, cattivo, difficile ecc… o qualsiasi cosa sia, o in qualunque modo si faccia qualcosa.
Esempio:
However small it was he was hesitant to take the risk. – Per quanto fosse piccolo esitava a prendere quel rischio.
We let the kids decorate their rooms however they want to. – Lasciamo i ragazzi decorare la loro camera, in qualsiasi modo vogliano.
However you look at it, this is very worrying news. – In qualunque modo tu la guardi resta sempre una notizia preoccupante.
